Nani & Grandpas

Last week the family took a trip to El Dorado Hills for a visit to Nani and Grandpas! This was Sawyers 4th time to Sacramento and his 3rd time flying. He did an awesome job and it was much easier with Matt there this time. Now that Sawyer is less fussy and more predictable we were able to get out and do a few things. Matt got to golf a few times and we enjoyed a date night! We also got 6 month photos of Sawyer taken, which I cannot wait to see! It was a great trip and Sawyer and I will be back again in July. I will be going to a friends baby shower and it will be the first time he will be away from me for more than 3 hrs :/

The latest and greatest about Sawyer...his naps are getting longer and last night he SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT. I am not talking 5 hrs straight I am talking 12 hrs straight!!!!! It took 6 months and 1 week but he did it! I am realistic and know it probably won't happen tonight but it's nice to know he is capable of doing it. He has discovered that smacking his lips makes a noise and whenever Matt or I do it he will do it too. It's pretty cute. He is sitting unassisted fairly well. I don't leave him there yet but I sit right behind him and he rarely needs me. Because he can sit up, the instructor at Gymboree said he is ready for level 2! My son the graduate, so proud!

He is starting to get the hang of the walk-about but he uses both feet to push off instead of one foot in front of the other. We went to dinner a few nights ago with friends and Sawyer sat in a highchair for the first time! It's a great option for when we go out, I always questioned what the heck do I put him in and now that the infant car seat is gone the only other option was to hold him. We tried the cart at target the other day but he was not really a fan unless I was pushing him and then that got old and he wanted out. I am hoping eventually he can handle a trip to the store in the cart the whole time, grocery shopping would be so much easier.

Sawyer is starting to really like people and hams it up in front of anyone who will give him attention. If they don't give him attention, he will squawk and scream until they do. I get comments from strangers often that he is the happiest baby and I just laugh! It's true he is but it's if they only knew what months 0-4 were like haha We sure love our little man!

Gymboree

We started Gymboree a week ago and it is so much fun! Sawyer is so engaged in class. For a baby who was a wreck the first 3 months of life it is so enjoyable to see him happy and excited about the things around him. We go 3 times a week and Dad gets to go on Saturdays. We sing songs, play with puppets, beach balls, rain sticks and all sorts of fun stuff for the babies. It's great because I use a lot of it back at the house now too.

We are full steam ahead on the baby food! We have tried a lot of new foods - peas, squash, apples, banana, oatmeal. I bought an avocado the other day so we will try that next.

There are so many new sounds coming out of Sawyer haha that sounds funny but seriously he is fascinated with his voice. He has started to blow spit bubbles :) He's quite the talker and is known as one of "chatty" ones in Gymboree. He is giggling more and more and it's the best! We purchased a walk-about for him and should be here today. I am really excited to see if he gets the hang of it! He is still in love with the Jumperoo. He is rolling more with a purpose these days and enjoys being on his tummy. I have to keep a close watch on him now.

We are headed up to Sacramento this week to visit Nani, Grandpa and Uncle Joe. We have a 6 month photo session scheduled and I am so excited! He's so stink'n cute, I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Busy Weekend

As most of you know, we are moving to LA. We decided to head up there on Saturday to check out some areas we have been interested in. We stopped in Tarzana first and it was nice but we were meeting an agent in Woodland Hills. Driving through Woodland Hills was impressive! It was beautiful, you did not feel like you were in LA. It reminded me of mid-town Sac and Hancock Park (in LA). We saw 5 properties, some we liked better than others. The last house we saw was north of the blvd which is a little cheaper than south of the blvd. The house is a horse property and has horse stables on it! The back yard is a 1/2 acre! The house is 3 bedroom 2 bath. It's has "Charm" it's older but well maintained. The price was fantastic and location was great and that backyard was unbelievable. We put in our application and got it! I am so excited but also feeling very overwhelmed. I am so glad we used a Realtor because it was not easy getting the deal done. There was quite a bit of back and forth but we eventually got what we wanted except the move in date...We are now moving June 1st instead of the end of June. Matt will have to stay here and finish out his time at Qualcomm until June 15? There is still a lot we need to figure out so we will see what happens!

Sawyer did pretty darn good on the drive and going from house to house. The way home was a little rough but I don't blame him I wanted out of the car too! I am glad we don't have to go back and house hunt again!

Sawyer had his first veggie last week. We started with squash and he loved it! I am so relieved he likes eating. He still loves his oatmeal. We took one of those pouches of squash on the road trip and he did great. I feel like I don't really know what I am doing when it comes to solids but he seems to like what we have going on. Just this last week he has dropped a night feeding, so we are down to one and I think he would probably be fine to stop that one too (honestly I think it's me that doesn't want to drop it). He is still up 2-3 times a night but I am so used to it, it doesn't really bother me.

Until next week...

Mommy's Night Out

This weekend I had my first Happy Hour since Sawyer was born (well actually longer b/c I didn't drink for 9 months) with my friend Megan. We went to a place down the street to make it easy. Her hubby Matt picked me up and my Matt picked us up it was really nice! We went early so that we didn't miss bedtime. Matt was a little nervous because this was the longest he had been alone with Sawyer. Sawyer was not having the best day either :( His naps were horrible and as I was walking out the door he pooped all over Matt! hahahaha I was expecting a call but Matt did great and Megan and I had a really nice time!

We started Sawyer on oatmeal cereal this week and he seems to like it much better then the rice cereal. He only gets a TBL a day but he is almost eating the whole thing compared to 3-4 spoonfuls of the rice cereal. We will start him on a vegetable when he is 6 months, which will be here soon! Good bye to the odorless breast-milk poops!

As I am typing this Sawyer is going on a 3 hour nap! It's funny... as soon I put it out into the universe that Sawyer sleeps 2 hours everyday for one of his naps it all goes to hell. Lately he has been taking 30-40 min naps for the first 2 naps and then the last one of the day is longer but he has been struggling to hit that second sleep cycle again. It's funny how 2 months ago I would have been perfectly happy helping Sawyer extend his nap with a boob or holding him but I am over it already! Take today for instance, I am so glad he is sleeping longer but after about 45 min I either have to feed him or hold him and then I can put him back down and he will sleep another hour. It will always baffle me why he can do it at night and sometimes during the day but lately he just can't do it on his own, what gives??? Don't get me wrong I will take this over his 2 months old days any day but come on dude! Mama wants to take a nap too but you keep waking me up!I have read every single book, blog, forum on napping and age seems to be the answer to longer, more consistent naps. I''ll be waiting :)
Belly is best? I knew he was going to be a belly sleeper.

Blog'n bout My Baby

I have been wanting to start a blog about our lives with Sawyer, especially since we don't live near family. I thought this would be a great way for grandparents, aunts and uncles to see what we have been up to. This little guy is growing fast and we don't want anyone to miss out on all the cool stuff he is doing.

Sawyer just turned 5 months and each month just gets better. As most of you know, Sawyer was a tough baby! Around 3 months it got better and it continues to do so. However, I think his personality is behind some of the fussiness which is OK because at this point I can handle it. It is no where near what it was.

As I type this Sawyer is screaming in his crib :) He puts himself to sleep now and sometimes there is crying and sometimes not. If he does cry, it is only for about 10 min at the most and then he is out. Naps are much better and pretty predictable  He is up in the morning about 6:45 am he goes down for his next nap about 8 am. For some reason he does not last long that first stretch of awake time. He will nap 45 min - 1 hr. and then he will go down about 11 am and give me about the same length. His last nap is about 2 pm and he will sleep for 2 hrs! Yes, that's right 2 hrs! Sometimes I have to help him get to the second hour with an extension. But as most of you know, extensions rarely worked but now it happens every time, it's a beautiful thing! He goes down for the night at 6:30-7 pm. Things are finally starting to fall into place and we have a good routine however, it doesn't always go so smoothly. We no longer swaddle him, which I thought would never end!

His favorite thing right now is the Jumperoo. I think most of you have seen the video. It's nice to have another thing to put him in. He still enjoys the play mat but prefers to sit up. He can sit up unassisted for a few seconds. I can't wait for the day he can sit unassisted! He rolls over when he wants and has started to do it in the crib. Matt and I have found him on his belly a few times.

We are so in love with this little guy and wish we were closer to family to share these moments with you all but this will have to do for now. I will try and update once a week with pics and video too!
